Mission Statement:
We are a club devoted to cruising and raising money for our adopted charity.
HISTORY
The Sarnia Street Machines began in 1985 with a few guys and gals in a garage. The SSM is a non-profit organization whose mission is to continually promote the car hobby through various events and activities which raise funds for our charitable community partner. Some of the events include hosting car shows, cruises and concerts, visiting retirement homes, participating in parades, delivering flowers for the MS Society, Hobby Fest etc. All of the proceeds from our events over the years have been donated to many different charities, community organizations and service clubs. The Club hosted the Canadian Nationals Car Show on 2 different occasions which was a monumental undertaking. The Club organizes and runs 2 large car show events each year, “Cruise in the Park” in June and “Hot Night, Cool Cars” (formerly Hot August Nights) in August. Each of these events attracts approximately 500 cars and thousands of spectators. Pathways staff and volunteers actively participate in these events, by preparing and selling food, assisting SSM members in selling 50/50 tickets and collecting donations from the spectators. All proceeds of these events go directly to Pathways.
Of course, the Club cannot take all the credit for this success. The SSM could not have reached this incredible milestone without the efforts of its members, Pathways staff and volunteers, the Lambton County Business community, the City, and of course the spectators that support our events. The community support for the SSM Car Club has been nothing short of amazing. This includes the financial and logistical support of our “Title” sponsor, Shell Oil Refinery, Sarnia, our “Major” sponsors and the many business sponsors and donors. There is the free concerts provided by the 2 local bands, Scott Manery and the Barn Burners and Borderline, the excellent assistance from the City Parks Department, the generous donation from the Judith and Norman Alex Foundation to purchase our event trailer and the list goes on! We are truly a blessed car club!
As a result of the promotional effort and community mindedness, the Sarnia Street Machines Car Club was inducted into the “Canadian Street Rodding Hall of Fame” in 2018. (Special thanks to Marty Raaymakers for sponsoring our nomination.)
A very special award indeed!
